Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez and His Perfect Record: Seven Finals, Seven Titles in Club and National Team
The Argentine goalkeeper expanded his legend by winning the Europa League with Aston Villa and maintaining his perfect record: seven finals, seven titles.
A new chapter in Dibu's story
Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez once again demonstrated why his name is already written in the great history of soccer. The goalkeeper from Mar del Plata won the 2025-26 UEFA Europa League with Aston Villa after a 0-3 win over Freiburg, and achieved a unique record: seven finals played, seven titles won. At 33, he has become an absolute specialist in decisive matches
A path marked by the national team
Martínez's journey with the Argentine national team is legendary. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he was the star of the final against France, which ended 3-3 and was decided on penalties. There, he stopped a shot and made an unforgettable save, stopping Randal Kolo Muani's one-on-one attempt in the 123rd minute. In addition, he lifted two Copa América trophies, the first in 2021, with a 1-0 win over Brazil at the Maracaná, and the second in 2024, with another 1-0 win against Colombia. In both, he kept his net clean and was named the tournament's best goalkeeper. Among those achievements is also the 2022 Finalissima, where Argentina beat Italy 3-0 with another solid performance from Dibu
Successes in England
His club-level record began with Arsenal in 2020, when he won the FA Cup against Chelsea (2-1) and the Community Shield against Liverpool, which was decided on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Since his arrival at Aston Villa in September of that same year, Martínez has established himself as a leader and shone again in the recent Europa League final, keeping a clean sheet to extend his perfect record
A historical record
In total, Emiliano Martínez has seven titles from seven finals: two Copa Américas, a World Cup, a Finalissima, an FA Cup, a Community Shield, and the Europa League. His ability to respond in decisive moments makes him one of the most reliable and effective goalkeepers of the modern era, a specialist who turns every save into a victory
