Maresca '100%' not happy with Chelsea scheduling ahead of Conference League final
Chelsea will have two fewer days to prepare for the Conference League final than Real Betis, a decision that has annoyed Enzo Maresca.
Enzo Maresca has been left frustrated by Chelsea's schedule ahead of the Conference League final.
The Blues will face Real Betis in the showpiece on May 28 in Wroclaw, Poland, but will have differing preparation times after the conclusion of their respective seasons.
Chelsea face Nottingham Forest in their final Premier League game of 2024-25, in a crucial clash with both sides still battling for a Champions League place, while Betis finish their LaLiga campaign against Valencia on Friday.
The Conference League final will be Chelsea's first European showpiece since winning the 2020-21 Champions League by beating Manchester City 1-0 under Thomas Tuchel.
And Maresca believes the scheduling should allow for both teams to have the same preparation time to make things fairer.
"I am not happy, 100%," Maresca told a news conference. "You cannot allow a team 48 hours more time when they are playing a European final.
"[Either we play Friday] or they play Sunday like us. I don't know if it's the Premier League, LaLiga or UEFA, but it is not normal to play a team who has had 48 hours more time than you.
"It is not correct. I don't know who it is, but there should be rules, absolutely yes."
Chelsea have previously won the Champions League, Europa League, Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup twice each and are looking to add another major European trophy to their collection.
"The main target is to win a European competition with Chelsea," Maresca added.
"It's important for the club at this moment, for the fans, for everyone, because it means we are going in the right direction."
Maresca also confirmed that Filip Jorgensen, who has played all but one of Chelsea's Conference League matches, including the playoffs, will be the starting goalkeeper against Betis.
Jorgensen has kept five clean sheets in the competition, conceding eight goals in his 13 appearances.
"Filip is going to play the final because he played all the competition. It is unfair if you arrive at the final, and he is not playing the final," said Maresca.
"This game will be Filip plus 10 players. I do not know which the other 10 will be, but Filip is going to play because he deserves to play."
