Antony Leads Betis to the Conference League Final
The Verdiblancos' dream has finally come true. Real Betis pulled off a memorable feat by overcoming a tough semifinal against Fiorentina, booking their place in a European final for the first time in the club’s history. In a match full of drama, Ez Abde scored the winning goal in extra time, sealing a 4–3 aggregate victory and sending the Betis faithful into euphoria.
The Andalusian side now advances to the grand final of the UEFA Conference League, where they will face Chelsea, who secured their own spot by defeating Breslavia. The title match will take place on May 21 at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, with Betis aiming to write one of the brightest chapters in their history.
If one player stood out in the semifinal, it was Antony. The Brazilian winger was instrumental in keeping Betis's dream alive, scoring a sensational free-kick goal that left David De Gea helpless and set the tone for a historic night.
But Fiorentina fought back. Two headed goals from Robin Gosens, both from set pieces, leveled the tie and silenced the initial Betis celebration just before halftime. Despite a strong start, Betis had to weather the storm from a Fiorentina side with vast experience in knockout-stage football.
In the second half, Ez Abde came off the bench to bring a spark and gradually imposed himself on the match. Manuel Pellegrini's men stood firm against the constant aerial threat from the Italian side, and just when the match seemed destined for a penalty shootout, the moment of truth arrived.
A mispass from Richardson was intercepted by Isco, who delivered a brilliant through ball to Antony. The Brazilian went one-on-one with De Gea, who made a superb save, but the rebound fell to Abde, who calmly slotted the ball home in the 97th minute.
Abde hit the post again in the 120th minute, but that near miss wouldn’t matter. The final whistle confirmed the feat: Real Betis will play in their first-ever European final, with their sights now set on lifting the Conference League trophy in Bilbao against one of Europe’s giants.
