'We should've killed it off' – Kane rues Bayern's missed chances in Arsenal draw

  • Bayern Munich came from behind to lead against Arsenal, but despite having chances to seal the victory, they were instead pegged back again.

Harry Kane believes Bayern Munich should have killed off the game against Arsenal after being held to a 2-2 draw in the Champions League.

Kane led Bayern's fightback after Eberechi Eze had given Arsenal a first-half lead as he set up Alphonso Davies for the equaliser before putting them ahead from the penalty spot.

However, Declan Rice netted in the 82nd minute to snatch Arsenal a point and condemn Bayern to a second straight draw in Europe, having been shocked in a 3-3 stalemate by Viking last week.

Former Tottenham striker Kane scored his 16th goal against Arsenal in all competitions (14 in 19 games for Spurs, two in four games for Bayern). He only has more goals against Leicester City (20 in 20 matches) in his entire career.

The Englishman also became the sixth player in Champions League history to score or assist in 10 consecutive appearances, and the first since Serhou Guirassy between November 2020 and February 2025.

Bayern had one fewer shot than Arsenal (14 to 13), and both sides managed five attempts on target overall, though Vincent Kompany's side won the expected goals battle with 2.5 xG to the Gunners' 1.4.

And Kane was left to rue those missed opportunities as Bayern now sit 14th in the Champions League table after dropping points.

"It was a good performance," Kane said. "Especially at the start of the second half, we came back out with high intensity and scored the goal.

"In that spell, we should've killed it off – we had the chances. We tried to keep the ball in the last 20 minutes, but Arsenal punished us with their goal.

"The draw was fair overall. We've got a lot of players who are missing, so we'll take the point."

Kompany felt similarly to Kane but was hesitant to dwell on the disappointment for too long with a trip to Freiburg next up on Sunday.

"We had the feeling that we could, or maybe even should have won the game, but we're up against strong opponents, and the game was never over," he said.

"It's obviously a shame in the moment when you concede the equaliser, but it was an intensive match against a top team, and next we face the team second in the Bundesliga, and that's the most important as of now."
