Simeone relaxed over Atletico Madrid transfers ahead of window closing
Atletico Madrid have seen four players depart and none arrive so far this window, but Diego Simeone is not giving up hope of new signings.
Diego Simeone says he is "calm" about Atletico Madrid's transfer business and remains optimistic of strengthening before the window closes.
Javi Galan, Carlos Martin, Conor Gallagher and Giacomo Raspadori have all left Atletico this month, with no players yet to arrive.
Simeone admitted after Sunday's 3-0 LaLiga win over Mallorca that he is desperate for new signings before the window closes next Monday.
That came after sporting director Mateu Alemany had said it would take "something special" for Atleti to sign a player.
However, Simeone has played down any suggestions of a rift between himself and Alemany over his side's lack of incoming activity.
"There's zero [animosity]," Simeone told reporters on the eve of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Bodo/Glimt. "I'm calm where I am.
"Anything can happen until the very last day, as I've been saying for 14 years. There can be arrivals and departures.
"What matters is that when the transfer window closes, Atletico comes out stronger."
Atleti have won five and drawn one of their past six LaLiga games, but they are seven and eight points behind Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Last week's 1-1 draw away at Galatasaray, meanwhile, leaves them heading into the final round of the league phase in the Champions League in 12th place as one of eight teams on 13 points.
A top-eight spot – and automatic qualification to the last 16 – is still possible for Atletico, but Simeone is not taking Bodo/Glimt lightly after the Norwegians stunned Manchester City 4-1 last time out.
"Bodo/Glimt have had some very difficult matches and have played very well away from home," Simeone said. "They competed very well in Dortmund and they beat City."
"The team plays very well, with good transitions. We are going to try to win the match from a place of humility and hard work.
"The Champions League is an occasion – as we are seeing on this final matchday, because the teams at the bottom want to move up and those at the top want to qualify for the round of 16.
"Other results have to go our way [for a top-eight finish], but we have to get a good result first."
