Robert Lewandowski Can Match a Record Held by Messi in Europe
Lewandowski has the chance to match the Argentine star in Barcelona’s next Champions League match against Copenhagen
Lewandowski wants to go down in history and take a record away from Messi
The 38-year-old Polish striker is looking to break one of the records set by Messi. The Barcelona striker is on the verge of becoming the player who has scored against the most teams. Robert Lewandowski has scored against 39 different teams to date, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo by one, and will look to match Lionel Andrés Messi when he faces Copenhagen; if he scores, he’ll reach his 40th.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski is already the third-highest scorer in the Champions League, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo with 141 goals and Messi with 169. For the polish striker, 106 goals are what currently secure his place on the podium; given his age and the possibility of leaving European football, it would be difficult for him to match or surpass his two rivals, even tho they no longer compete in Europe.
Lewandoski's goals
Out of the goals Lewandowski has scored in the Champions League, twenty were with his current team, FC Barcelona, and in the upcoming match against FC Copenhagen he will not only be looking to add to that tally but also to match this record and become, alongside Messi, the player to have scored against the most number of clubs.
The bulk of his goals came during his time at Bayern Munich, where he scored 69, while the remaining 17 were scored as a striker for Borussia Dortmund, Bayern’s eternal rival in the Bundesliga.
Will Robert Lewandowski be able to match this record held by one of the Catalan club’s legends?
