Regretful! Luis Díaz Wishes Achraf Hakimi a “Speedy Recovery”
The Colombian publicly apologized after the tough tackle that injured the Moroccan defender during Bayern Munich’s Champions League victory over PSG.
The clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich promised to be a spectacle—and it delivered. At the Parc des Princes, the German side won 2–1 thanks to a stellar performance from Luis Díaz, who scored both goals. However, the Colombian’s heroics were overshadowed by controversy after a hard tackle on Achraf Hakimi, which forced the Moroccan full-back to leave the field in tears.
Initially shown a yellow card, Díaz’s challenge was later upgraded to a straight red following VAR review. The incident, which occurred late in the first half, left Hakimi with a syndesmosis tear and deltoid ligament damage, sidelining him for at least eight weeks.
“It was a night full of emotions. Football always reminds us that in 90 minutes, the best and the worst can happen. I’m sad I couldn’t finish the game with my teammates, but proud of our team’s effort. I wish Hakimi a quick return to the pitch,” wrote Luis Díaz on social media after the match.
Kompany and Bayern Stand by Their Player
After the game, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany defended the Colombian and expressed sympathy for what happened. “I hope Hakimi recovers soon—it’s terrible. We went through the same thing last year with Musiala. I don’t think Díaz meant any harm; it was just an unfortunate incident in a high-intensity match,” said the Belgian coach.
Kompany, who has now led Bayern to 16 consecutive victories, also warned his team not to get complacent: “We haven’t won anything yet. The Champions League champion hasn’t been decided. We have to keep pushing with the same intensity.”
Meanwhile, in the German dressing room, defender Josip Stanišić made a lighthearted comment in the mixed zone: “We thanked him for it… just kidding! He was happy, like all of us.” The remark didn’t sit well with PSG fans, who voiced their anger on social media.
Although Luis Díaz’s tackle was accidental, it left a mark on the night in Paris. His remorse and public message to Hakimi showed that, beyond competition, mutual respect between players remains fundamental. Now, the Colombian will serve his suspension and hope his rival makes a swift recovery so they can meet again on the pitch.
