Real Madrid's Rivals in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League Season
Real Madrid is set to discover its eight opponents in the 2026-27 Champions League league phase. The new format could put European giants in their path.
Real Madrid is already looking ahead to another European adventure. Los Blancos will compete in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League and are about to discover the eight teams they will face during the league phase of the tournament.
The draw will take place this Thursday, August 27, in Monaco, with 36 clubs involved in the opening stage of the competition. The UEFA's new format maintains one of its main characteristics: each team will play eight matches against eight different opponents, with four games at home and four away.
Real Madrid will be placed in Pot 1, but that does not mean they will have an easy road ahead. Under the current system, some of Europe's biggest clubs can meet from this opening phase, meaning the Spanish giants could face several high-profile challenges right from the start.
The league phase will once again bring together 36 teams in a single overall standings table. Real Madrid will have eight opponents, with two coming from each of the four pots involved in the draw.
A Path That Could Push Madrid to the Limit
All teams will now compete in a 36-club overall standings table, with every point potentially proving crucial in determining their route through the knockout stages.
The top eight teams will advance directly to the Round of 16, while clubs finishing between ninth and 24th place will have to play a playoff to remain in contention for the title.
For José Mourinho's side, the objective will be to avoid any slip-up that could complicate their position in the standings.
