Questions Raised About Real Madrid’s Squad Ahead of the Champions League Match Against Monaco
Uncertainties in Real Madrid’s tactical approach against AS Monaco in their Champions League match.
Doubts in the Real Madrid squad
Real Madrid is preparing for its UEFA Champions League match against AS Monaco this Tuesday, January 20, at its home stadium, the Bernabéu. Although we’re just hours away from the match, there are still question marks over which players will be called up and in the starting lineup. For the time being, the confirmed absences for the Merengues are Militao, Trent, and Mendy, who are not in optimal physical condition. Meanwhile, Rodrygo and Rüdiger are major question marks for Arbeloa’s team, as both have been training separately from the group.
A breather for the Merengues
Real Madrid is coming off a win against Levante in the whirlwind that followed their loss in the Spanish Super Cup and the eventual departure of coach Xabi Alonso; it would seem that Arbeloa has found some respite after being eliminated by Albacete in the Copa del Rey.
Next match
The match between Real Madrid and Monaco would be the penultimate matchday for the Merengues in the first stage of this Champions League format. Today, Real Madrid is in seventh place in the standings and has two matches left to play; excluding the game against Monaco, only the final match of this stage against SL Benfica remains.
