Potential Round of 16 Matchups in the Champions League Are Now Set
The teams are set. Now the real question begins: who faces who?
The most intense phase of the Champions League is about to begin. With the playoffs officially wrapped up, the 16 remaining teams now turn their attention to the draw that will define the road to the final. Beyond who advanced, the real focus is on the possible matchups that could completely reshape the tournament.
Real Madrid and Atlético Eye the Premier League
Real Madrid handled business against Benfica and now await their opponent in Friday’s draw. The Spanish giants could face Manchester City under Pep Guardiola or Sporting CP, two very different challenges but equally demanding scenarios.
Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, are guaranteed a clash with the Premier League. Diego Simeone’s side will meet either Liverpool or Tottenham, who finished third and fourth in the League Phase. Either matchup promises a high-intensity knockout battle.

Bodo/Glimt and PSG Face Major Tests
Tournament surprise package Bodo/Glimt, after eliminating Inter, will also face a heavyweight. Their options are Manchester City or Sporting, both among the top performers in the League Phase.
The reigning champions, Paris Saint-Germain, have yet to learn their exact opponent but enter the draw with the possibility of facing several European powerhouses. Seeding status will play a key role in determining their path.
Newcastle and Leverkusen Await Giants
Newcastle United, after dominating their playoff tie, will face either Barcelona or Chelsea. Both represent historic European names that would immediately raise the level of difficulty for Eddie Howe’s squad.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen are set to take on either Arsenal or Bayern Munich, the top two finishers in the League Phase. Either opponent would present a massive challenge for the German side.
A Draw That Defines the Road Ahead
The Round of 16, quarterfinal, and semifinal draws will take place on Friday, February 27 at 12:00 p.m. The eight playoff winners will join the eight best teams from the League Phase, who enter as seeded sides.
With potential opponents now clear, the Champions League moves into its most decisive stretch. From here on, one draw can change everything.
