Marquinhos revels in PSG's maiden Champions League triumph: It's the best day of my life
After suffering defeat in the Champions League final in 2020, Marquinhos was delighted to end Paris Saint-Germain's wait for the trophy.
Marquinhos said Paris Saint-Germain's first-ever Champions League victory marked the best day of his life after their record-breaking win.
PSG brushed aside Inter 5-0 in a dominant performance, becoming the first side to win a European Cup/Champions League by a five-goal margin.
Desire Doue got a brace and set up Achraf Hakimi's opener, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu rounded off their impressive performance late on.
Having also won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, PSG became the ninth different European side to win the treble, and the first French side to do so.
Their first Champions League triumph came in their 168th match in the competition, the most matches played by a side before winning their first title.
And Marquinhos, who was part of the PSG side that lost the final in 2020 to Bayern Munich, was delighted to put the hurt behind him as he lifted the trophy.
"It's a mixture of joy, of all the emotions we've spent together," Marquinhos told M6. "I suffered, but I grew up with this team.
"I think of all the players who have come and gone and didn't succeed.
"My idol, Thiago [Silva], Lucas [Moura], Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], [Edinson] Cavani, [Angel] Di Maria. So many players who have come and gone here who deserved it and didn't succeed.
"We arrive and we bring it home. I think of all the supporters who have been with us, those at the Parc and those around the world. I love you, enjoy it, and we're going to enjoy it here.
"It's the best day of my life. My family was with me and experienced it with me. It was a big goal. When we arrived, no one believed we could go this far.
"It's twelve years of difficulty and suffering. I value this title too much, it's with us, and we're bringing it home. I'm so happy."
Doue stole the show for PSG, becoming the first player to be involved in three goals in a Champions League final (two goals, one assist).
His replacement, Bradley Barcola, also notched an assist, setting up Mayulu's late goal, and he says it is a dream for the club to finally get their hands on the trophy.
"The club had been looking for her for a long time, and this year, we managed to get her," Barcola told Canal+.
"I still can't believe it. It's a dream to win the Champions League with such a big club."
