Liverpool Fan Who Clashed With Simeone Breaks Silence and Shares His Version
The incident between Diego Simeone and a Liverpool fan doesn’t stop: now the supporter breaks his silence and accuses one of Simeone’s assistants of spitting at him.
The Controversy That Lit Up Anfield
Virgil van Dijk’s 92nd-minute goal sent Anfield into a frenzy, but the euphoria ended in controversy: a heated clash between Diego Pablo Simeone and a group of fans sitting just behind the Atlético Madrid bench. The Argentine coach avoided giving explanations in his post-match press conference, but one of the supporters involved decided to share his version on social media.
According to him, the suggestions of racist insults or references to the Falklands War are completely false. “There was never anything racist said by me or anyone else. Nor was there any mention of the Falklands. But when he was asked in the press conference and didn’t answer, he left it open to speculation for the whole world,” he said.
The Gesture and the Accusation
The supporter admitted to making an obscene hand gesture toward the Atlético bench but denied any serious insults. “I’ve received messages from everywhere about what I supposedly said, but I didn’t say anything apart from that gesture,” he explained. However, he launched a harsh accusation against one of Simeone’s assistants: “When they scored the equalizer, they celebrated in front of us. We called him whatever, but his assistant came over and spat at me.”

Simeone’s Silence
So far, neither Simeone nor Atlético Madrid have provided an official version of the events. The Cholo simply dodged questions in the press room, keeping the mystery alive about what really happened just a few feet away from the visiting bench.
What’s clear is that the incident has gone beyond the sporting realm and threatens to prolong the controversy well past Anfield.
