Kylian Mbappé Slams Real Madrid After Benfica Defeat
French star Kylian Mbappé did not hold back after Real Madrid’s heavy loss to Benfica, a result that forces Álvaro Arbeloa’s side into the Champions League playoffs.
Just when it seemed that Real Madrid were beginning to turn the corner under their new coach, the Spanish giants suffered a nightmare at the Estádio da Luz, exposing serious flaws and complicating their European campaign.
Mbappé Explodes Over Anatoliy Trubin’s Goal
“We had a clear objective of finishing in the top eight to avoid extra matches. We started the game very poorly, they deserved to score first and were much better in the first half,” Mbappé told reporters after the match.
The French forward went even further in his criticism:
“If we go into halftime losing 5–1, no one would be surprised. That last goal we conceded is embarrassing.”
The former PSG star explained that Real Madrid lacked intensity and cohesion, qualities that Benfica—coached by José Mourinho—showed in abundance.
“This isn’t just about attitude, it’s everything. If you don’t give 100 percent in a Champions League match, you get exposed,” Mbappé said.

Mbappé Sends a Message to Real Madrid Fans
Despite his frustration, Mbappé urged supporters to stand behind the team as they prepare for their upcoming LaLiga clash against Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu.
"We want them to come ready to support the team because today's match was bad, but they are two different competitions. We are not eliminated from the Champions League and we are in good form in La Liga. We are playing against a team that makes it difficult like Rayo, but if the Bernabéu is with us, I think we are going to win."
