Kompany Compares Hakimi Injury to Musiala’s: “It’s Something Terrible”
Vincent Kompany expressed support for Achraf Hakimi after the defender’s injury and recalled that Bayern Munich experienced a similar situation last season with Jamal Musiala, stressing that Champions League intensity can lead to severe setbacks.
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany set rivalry aside to deliver a heartfelt message toward Achraf Hakimi, who was forced off the pitch due to injury in the European clash between Paris Saint-Germain and the German side. The Moroccan star suffered a harsh challenge from Luis Díaz, which resulted in the Colombian’s subsequent red card.
Support for Hakimi and a Painful Reminder
Speaking after Bayern’s 2-1 win in Paris, Kompany highlighted how difficult the moment must be for the right-back:
“I hope Hakimi recovers soon. It’s something terrible. We went through the same thing last season with Musiala,” said the coach.
The Belgian clarified that he does not believe Luis Díaz intended to injure his opponent, but emphasized that such incidents are bound to happen in a match played at the highest level of intensity.
“It was a match full of energy, with actions on the edge. Moments of bad luck like this can always occur,” Kompany added.
The injury came on the day Hakimi celebrated his 27th birthday, making the situation even more bitter for the PSG defender.
Bayern’s Winning Streak Continues, but With Caution
Even while concerns focused on Hakimi’s physical condition, Kompany also praised his squad’s exceptional form. Bayern Munich are riding an impressive 16-match winning streak across all competitions, a run that strengthens their status as one of the top contenders for the European crown.
Despite the momentum, Kompany urged calm and humility:
“We haven’t won anything yet. The Champions League champion hasn’t been decided. We must approach every match as if it were the first.”
The message is clear: no distractions, no complacency.
As Paris Saint-Germain await medical evaluations to determine Achraf Hakimi’s recovery timeline, Bayern continue their strong push forward. Still, the image of the Moroccan leaving the pitch serves as an important reminder that elite football — with all its glory and spectacle — can turn cruel in just a single moment.
