Julián Álvarez Doubtful for Atlético de Madrid’s Visit to Anfield Against Liverpool
Atlético de Madrid faces major concerns ahead of their visit to Anfield to face Liverpool: Julián Álvarez and David Hancko remain doubtful for the Champions League clash.
Concerns in attack and defense
Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone will have Robin Le Normand and Nico González available for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield. However, doubts remain over the fitness of Julián Álvarez and David Hancko, who are both under medical evaluation and uncertain for the trip to England.
The Argentine forward was taken off at halftime during last Saturday’s match against Villarreal due to discomfort. Meanwhile, the Slovak defender suffered an ankle sprain in the 82nd minute of the same game following a hard challenge in midfield. Neither player trained with the group during Monday’s session, raising concerns within the coaching staff.
Confirmed absences and reinforcements
Unlike Álvarez and Hancko, both Le Normand and Nico González trained normally with the rest of the squad at the Majadahonda training center and will be available to strengthen the rojiblanco side for one of Europe’s toughest fixtures.
On the other hand, Álex Baena remains out as he continues to recover from appendicitis surgery on September 2, while Thiago Almada is sidelined with a muscle injury sustained last week that already kept him out against Villarreal. José María Giménez is also unavailable, having been out since June 20 when he was injured during the Club World Cup match against Seattle Sounders.
The official squad list for Atlético de Madrid will be released Tuesday morning before the team departs for Liverpool. In the meantime, all eyes are on the progress of Julián Álvarez, a key figure in attack, and Hancko, who has been crucial in defense.
Facing Liverpool at Anfield will be a massive challenge for Simeone’s side, but also a chance to show resilience and depth despite the current injury concerns.
