Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona: Verbal Agreement Until 2028 and Option for Contract Extension Based on Results
Barça and Hansi Flick verbally agree to extend the contract until 2028, with an option for 2029 linked to titles and performance
Elimination from the Champions League but stays
The romance between Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona remains intact since his arrival in the summer of 2024. Not even the bitter elimination in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid has tarnished the relationship. With the team leading the league with a nine-point advantage over Real Madrid, the fans dream of the German staying on the bench at Spotify Camp Nou for many years. However, Flick, 61, is clear that this will be his last club and does not wish to commit to long contracts.
Good relations and a valid contract
Currently, the coach is contracted until 2027, but there is already a verbal agreement to extend it for another year, until 2028. The good rapport between Flick, his agent Pini Zahavi, the elected president Joan Laporta, the interim Rafa Yuste, and the football director Deco has facilitated this agreement. Even so, the coach has asked to wait until the end of the season to formalize any signing, avoiding taking advantage of the favorable situation in the League.

One more year?
The club, for its part, wants to go further: Laporta and Deco have conveyed the intention to add an optional year to the extension, which would allow the contract to be extended until 2028-29 if certain objectives are met, such as winning the League. Flick does not reject this possibility, but insists that it is not the right time to discuss the renewal. His priority is that the decision is made with the results on the table and without emotional conditions.
