Five of the ‘Big Six’ Among the Top Eight
English clubs are setting a trend in the Champions League.
Five of the ‘Big Six’ are among the top eight in the Champions League
With the final matchday of the Champions League group stage approaching, positions are already starting to be decided, and we can see teams looking to secure their spots while others attempt an epic comeback to reach the playoffs.
Arsenal and Bayern Munich have already secured their place in the round of 16. Thanks to their performance, they managed to score 21 and 18 points, respectively, securing the top spots in the table. Meanwhile, teams like Barcelona are outside the top eight and will have to fight to get back in.
The big five is present
The most striking thing about this stage of the Champions League is that five of the six English football teams in the competition have made it into the top eight. Arsenal leads the table, followed by Liverpool in fourth place, Tottenham in fifth, and Newcastle and Chelsea in seventh and eighth, respectively. The only team not among the top eight in this phase is Guardiola’s Manchester City, which lost 3–1 to Bodø/Glimt; this defeat placed them in eleventh place with thirteen points.

Tottenham, a unique case
Another interesting case is that of Tottenham, who have been under scrutiny and struggling in their league, where they currently sit in 14th place. Manager Thomas Frank is also in danger of losing his job after meetings with fans and online discontent.
