Champions League 'suits me' better than Bundesliga, says Kane
Harry Kane began his 2025-26 Champions League campaign with a brace against Chelsea, scoring in each half to help them to a 3-1 win.
Harry Kane believes the Champions League suits him better than the Bundesliga, because it offers more opportunities for him to score.
Kane scored twice against Chelsea as Bayern secured a 3-1 victory over the Blues to begin their Champions League campaign with a win.
Since the beginning of the 2024-25 season, no player has scored more goals in the competition than Kane (13, level with Raphinha and Serhou Guirassy), while overall he has netted 21 Champions League goals for Bayern.
In the Bundesliga, the 32-year-old has netted five goals in three games, including an opening-day hat-trick against RB Leipzig (scored in 13 minutes).
Against Chelsea, Kane had a game-high five shots, with three of those on target, and his opportunities were worth 1.3 expected goals. Two of those were Opta-defined 'big' chances.
"I always feel like in the Champions League you create maybe more chances than the Bundesliga, the games are maybe a bit more open, and that suits me," Kane told broadcaster DAZN.
"Hopefully, I can get more than 11 this year."
Bayern won possession 39 times throughout the game, while Chelsea lost the ball on 94 occasions, with the hosts' pressure paying off.
Kane profited on one of those occasions, capitalising on a loose ball to fire home after Malo Gusto had failed to play his way out of the pressure.
"We talk a lot about when the other teams try and play, you know, we're always two or three seconds away from having a chance ourselves," he said.
"You saw that with the pressure, and you saw that throughout the whole game. There were opportunities that we had when we won the ball back quickly, so yeah, it kind of fell to me in a nice place, and it was a good finish."
