Carragher Harshly Criticized Cholo Simeone After Losing in the Champions League Semifinal Against Arsenal
The Atletico de Madrid coach faced harsh criticism from Carragher on the CBS program after the match and the elimination against Arsenal
Eliminated from Champions
After a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano between Atlético de Madrid and Arsenal, it had to be decided in London, and Arteta's English team secured a spot in the semifinals by winning the match by the narrowest of margins. In the midst of this defeat for Cholo Simeone's team, Carragher spoke and expressed his opinion on their performance in the match, congratulated the English coach Arteta, and was critical of the Argentine.
Aimed against Simeone
He didn't hold back against Cholo Simeone: "Atlético Madrid and Simeone played a huge role in this. It was a disappointing performance from an experienced coach. They sat back, kicked, tried the dark arts, but offered nothing. No ideas, no threats, no real fight when Arsenal pressed. Zero intention to attack. Griezmann seemed isolated; the midfield was overrun... it was flat," said the CBS commentator

Cholo Simeone and his inability to win
He also pointed out the Cholo's record in La Liga and accused him of not being able to beat Barcelona or Real Madrid because of these types of situations. "I look at his history and I'm not surprised they let it slip away. This is exactly why they always finish third behind Real Madrid and Barcelona after so many years. Simeone has done an incredible job at key moments; he has turned Atlético into a real club, but in the big moments, against serious teams with intensity and movement, they fall short. Too negative, too dependent on the same old script from ten years ago. La Liga has that problem too. it's not evolving quickly enough," concluded Carragher
