Yann Sommer on his incredible save against Lamine Yamal in extra time
Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer, one of the standout performers for Inter Milan in their victory over FC Barcelona, which secured their place in the Champions League final, said that his save against young Spaniard Lamine Yamal was the most “special” of the night.
Proud of the team’s effort & The most special save of the night
“I’m very happy, it was an incredible match. The team did something amazing tonight,” Sommer told Sky Sports Italia after being named UEFA’s MVP of the game. His performance between the posts was crucial, especially in the final minutes of extra time.
“That last stop on Lamine was a really special one. He’s an extremely talented player, always trying to cut inside and shoot. I’m just glad that shot didn’t go in,” said the Swiss keeper. Sommer, who wasn’t part of the squad that played in the 2023 final against Manchester City, will now play in his first Champions League final and praised his team’s mental strength.
Winning mentality
“This match shows we believe until the very end. Just look at Acerbi. We kept believing to the last second,” he said. Inter Milan will play the final on May 31 in Munich, where they’ll face the winner of the tie between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.
