Tuchel Questions Sané and Gnabry's Availability against Real Madrid
The two forwards are dealing with different physical issues, and their participation in the first leg of the semifinals on April 30 is in doubt.
Thomas Tuchel, coach of Bayern Munich, stated to the media on the eve of the Bundesliga match against Union Berlin that Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane are currently doubtful for the first leg of the Champions League semifinals against Real Madrid.
"For Serge Gnabry, it will be a race against time before the match against Real Madrid, and for Leroy Sane, it will be a race against pain," Tuchel said in a press conference on Friday, referring to the condition of the two players.
Gnabry returned to training on Thursday after suffering a muscle tear, and Sane, who has been dealing with some lingering discomfort in recent weeks, will likely miss the match in Berlin this Saturday. Bayern needs to win to maintain the upper hand in the race with Stuttgart for second place in the Bundesliga, as Bayer Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso, has already secured the title.
Bayern Munich advanced to the semifinals of the Champions League after defeating Arsenal 1-0 in the second leg, with a goal from Joshua Kimmich. The victory was celebrated enthusiastically.
"Moments like those against Arsenal need to be celebrated. The team enjoyed it. The task now is to prepare mentally and approach tomorrow's match. We still have work to do. The season in the Bundesliga isn't over yet," said Tuchel, who also acknowledged he expected Julian Nagelsmann's renewal as Germany's coach and considered it a good decision as it brings clarity and stability ahead of the Euros.
Bayern Munich will host Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, April 30, and visit Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, May 8.
