Ronald Araujo Breaks Silence After Inter Mistake: “I’ve Never Been One to Hide"
Ronald Araújo has responded publicly after facing heavy criticism for his role in FC Barcelona’s dramatic UEFA Champions League semifinal exit against Inter Milan. The Uruguayan defender took to Instagram to deliver a heartfelt message of accountability, pride, and resilience, just days ahead of El Clásico.
Self-Criticism and Mental Strength After the UCL Exit
Araújo was substituted on in the 76th minute of the second leg at San Siro, with Barcelona holding a 3-2 aggregate lead. However, he was involved in the two goals that sealed the 4-3 aggregate comeback for Inter, including being beaten in the air by Francesco Acerbi and later losing position against Marcus Thuram, who assisted the winning goal by Davide Frattesi.
After receiving a wave of online abuse, Araújo limited comments on his social media accounts. But on Saturday, he posted a powerful message:
“I accept it and acknowledge it. I’ve never been one to hide and I never will. It hurts to be eliminated, but this doesn’t end here. We worked, we fought, and we gave everything in an extremely tough tie. It wasn’t enough, and that hurts. But I also feel proud — of this team, my teammates, the badge we represent, and every culé who stood by us.”
