PSG is looking to make history in Munich, the city where the new kings of Europe are born.
Paris places its hopes on a curious statistic: every time a Champions League final has been played in Munich, the winner was a first time champion.
This Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain has a date with history. The team managed by Luis Enrique will play in the UEFA Champions League final with the goal of winning its first continental title. But it’s not just sporting ambition that fuels Parisian hopes a historical trend is also on their side.

Munich, the host city for this edition final, has been the stage on four occasions where debutant clubs lifted the coveted “Big Ears” trophy. PSG wants to become the fifth.
Munich: Fertile Ground for First-Time Champions
Throughout history, the Bavarian capital has hosted four Champions League finals. In each one, the champion won the title for the first time:
- 1979 (Olympiastadion): Nottingham Forest defeated Malmö 1–0 and began their European legend.
- 1993 (Olympiastadion): Olympique de Marseille, the only French club to have won the tournament, beat Milan 1–0 and became the first champion under the new Champions League format.
- 1997 (Olympiastadion): Borussia Dortmund shocked the world by defeating Juventus 3–1.
- 2012 (Allianz Arena): Chelsea triumphed on penalties against Bayern in an unforgettable night at the Munich stadium.
Will PSG Be Number 24?
This pattern has not gone unnoticed by PSG, who arrive at the final hungry for revenge after losing to Bayern in 2020 in Lisbon.
With 23 different clubs having won the Champions League so far, Paris Saint-Germain aims to become the 24th to join that exclusive list. After years of massive investments and sporting disappointments, the Parisian club now faces a golden opportunity in a city that, historically, favors new champions.
They will face a top-tier opponent, but PSG comes in motivated, aiming to follow in Marseille footsteps and secure France second continental crown. If Munich tradition holds, this could finally be PSG year
