Mbappé Set to Break Messi's Record
The French forward has officially announced his departure from PSG, but it's worth remembering what he has achieved and what he could achieve in the future.
Kylian Mbappé is, for many, the current best player in the world, and the stats back it up, as the Frenchman has achieved great things in the most important club tournament of all, the Champions League.
Mbappé has scored 48 goals in 74 Champions League appearances, being one of the top scorers since he started his adventure with Monaco in the 2016-2017 season. At the young age of 25, the French forward ranks ninth on the list of all-time UEFA Champions League goal scorers (excluding qualifying rounds), tied with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the Ukrainian, Andriy Shevchenko, in the Top Ten.
Champions League goals by club:
- Monaco - 9 matches and 6 goals
- PSG - 65 matches and 42 goals
Mbappé's goals in the Champions League:
- Left foot - 5
- Right foot - 41
- Head - 2
- Penalty - 6 (all with the right foot)
It's worth mentioning that the team Mbappé has scored the most goals against is Barcelona, with a total of six goals, followed by Club Brugge with five, and finally Borussia Dortmund and Juventus with four each.
A goal-scoring machine. Mbappé has scored two hat-tricks in the Champions League, both away from home, the first against Club Brugge in PSG's 5-0 victory in the 2019 season and the second against Barcelona in PSG's 4-1 victory at Camp Nou in the 2020/2021 season.
To conclude, the Frenchman surpassed Messi as the youngest player to reach 25 goals in this competition, as Mbappé achieved it at the age of 22.
