Luis Enrique Predicts "Plenty of Goals" in the Dortmund vs PSG Matchup
The Paris Saint-Germain coach, Luis Enrique, predicted a "high-scoring" match in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund this Wednesday.
"I believe the match will resemble those we both played in the quarterfinals, considering the way we interpret football, both they and us," stated the coach in the pre-match press conference.
"It's not in our philosophy to speculate; we come to win with our style of play, and I believe it will be a worthy spectacle for everyone, with goals due to both teams' ability to reach the opponent's goal," he added.
The coach refused to admit that his team is the favorite for the match, highlighting that "the line between victory and defeat is becoming thinner," and that PSG does not have more pressure than the other semifinalists.
"For any of the four teams that don't make it to the final, it will be a disappointment, and we're no different in that aspect," he pointed out.
Luis Enrique recalled that it was in the same stadium and in the same press conference a few months ago, after the group stage match against Dortmund, after barely qualifying for the round of 16, when he said they would improve, and he considers that they have done so "in all aspects of the game."
"We are better defensively and offensively. We can still improve; that is a characteristic of how we manage a club and a team. We are always demanding, and we consider that not everything is done, that everything is yet to be done," he declared.
Although he acknowledged they have "weak points," he assured that he always thinks his team "is better than the opponent" and tries to make that evident on the field, while also stating they will "seek victory through possession, dominating the opponent."
In that sense, he indicated they are not focused on the first leg thinking about a possible return at the Parc des Princes.
Luis Enrique trusted that his team would be liberated after the comeback in Barcelona, PSG's first after losing a first-leg match.
Regarding the fact of coaching the youngest squad in the Champions League, he considered it an insignificant detail, as "what matters is the maturity of the players," although he acknowledged it is "something positive for the future of the club."
The coach also highlighted Vitinha's contribution in midfield, describing him as "one of the best players of the team this season" and ensuring that "he has improved a lot defensively, and I believe I have my share of responsibility in that."
