Dani Olmo: “This Is a Huge Opportunity to Make History With Barça”
Ahead of the decisive clash with Inter Milan, Dani Olmo says Barcelona is ready to make history in the Champions League, praises Hansi Flick's leadership and backs Lamine Yamal to shine once again.
A semifinal that could redefine Barça's future
Just hours before facing Inter Milan in a pivotal Champions League semifinal, Dani Olmo made his intentions clear: “This is a huge opportunity we must take to make history with this club,” he stated at a press conference from the Giuseppe Meazza.
Acknowledging the significance of the moment, Olmo noted that Barcelona hasn’t reached a Champions League final in ten years and hadn’t even reached the semis in six. “I’ve already played a semifinal in 2020 with Leipzig against PSG, and I know how crucial these matches are. The team is excited and well-prepared,” he added.
Despite being only 26, the Terrassa native has become a voice of experience in a young squad. “There’s a lot of youth in the locker room, and they tend to treat everything like a party. But that’s why we veterans are here — to remind them how much is at stake,” he said. “I came to Barça to win. We’ve already lifted two trophies, and we’re still chasing two more. I’ve never regretted joining this club.”
Full confidence in Flick and in Yamal’s brilliance
Olmo also addressed the early uncertainty about his registration due to financial fair play issues. Now, he feels fully integrated in a healthy group with a strong identity. “This is a team with a clear idea, everyone pushing in the same direction,” he said.
He had nothing but praise for coach Hansi Flick: “He’s very close to the players. His message is clear, the game plan is well-defined, and we have total confidence in him and his staff.”
Turning to Lamine Yamal, who was a key figure in the 3-3 draw in the first leg, Olmo was full of admiration. “Everyone knows how good Lamine is and how vital he is for the team. He doesn’t surprise me — I’ve seen him deliver in the Euros and throughout the season.”
When asked about the possibility of Inter using a double team to contain the young winger, Olmo was quick to respond: “If Lamine is double-marked, that means someone else will be free. He’s already proven he can handle one, two, or even three defenders. We’ll support him to keep making the difference.”
