Neymar’s Contract Puts the President of Santos FC in a Complicated Position
The guarantee of Neymar's contract and the circumstances under which it was made put the president of the Brazilian club in a tight spot
A million-dollar squeeze
Santos and its president, Marcelo Teixeira, are facing a serious problem following accusations from a prosecutor and a giant debt revolving around 24 million dollars for Neymar's contract, a contract that, according to its critics, serves as a sort of personal shield and endangers the youth divisions, that is, the academy, and raises questions about the future of the club.
A legal battle
The Brazilian club that has seen world football stars like Pelé and Neymar emerge is now in a legal battle with the NR Sports group, a company that manages image rights and is notably led by the father of Santos player Neymar. The prosecutor of the case requested that the president resign from his position after finding irregularities in the player's contract, which he considers illegal for imposing disproportionate financial burdens on the club.

The contract guarantee
The big problem facing the club and causing concern among fans is that the club has the Santos training ground as part of the guaranty in this contract, something that, if not paid, could require the use of this ground for the payment of the contract, although the prosecutor declares that this guaranty is not valid and requests the annulment of the accounts for the year 2025 after showing a debt of almost 200 million dollars.
