Salah Unveils Symbolic No. 61 at Trabzonspor
Mohamed Salah's presentation as a Trabzonspor player drew attention not only because of his blockbuster move but also because of the symbolic No. 61 jersey he wore.o.
Mohamed Salah officially began his new chapter with Trabzonspor, but it was more than just his transfer that caught fans' attention during his unveiling.
After signing a two-year contract with the Turkish Süper Lig club following the end of his legendary spell at Liverpool, the Egyptian star appeared wearing the No. 61 shirt instead of the iconic No. 11 associated with much of his career.
According to talkSPORT, the number holds deep significance in Trabzon, as 61 is the city's telephone area code. It has become a powerful symbol of local identity, with supporters traditionally turning the 61st minute of every home match into a colorful celebration featuring chants, fireworks, and confetti.
By wearing the number, Salah follows a tradition previously embraced by players including Cihan Çanak, Yusuf Yazıcı, and Abdülkadir Parmak, all of whom carried the symbolic shirt.
Trabzonspor has not yet confirmed whether No. 61 will be Salah's official squad number for the season, but the gesture was widely interpreted as a tribute to the club and its supporters.
The Turkish side officially welcomed Salah with an Egyptian-themed unveiling video and images of the superstar in his new colors, marking one of the biggest signings in the history of the Süper Lig.
