Mohamed Salah has Trabzonspor eyeing the top

Trabzonspor head into Monday's clash with Amed SK knowing a victory would move them level at the top of the Süper Lig standings with Galatasaray on seven points.

Mohamed Salah will once again be at the center of attention after scoring twice in last weekend's victory over Istanbul Basaksehir. Another decisive performance from the Egyptian could help Trabzonspor turn an eventful few days into a potentially important league win.

The trip to Diyarbakir, however, comes immediately after a difficult European setback that briefly threw the club into turmoil.

A dramatic week for Fatih Tekke

Trabzonspor were eliminated from UEFA Europa League qualifying following a damaging 4-0 defeat against Ferencvaros, prompting Fatih Tekke to submit his resignation.

Tekke later admitted the decision had been made while he was in an emotional state. The Trabzonspor board rejected his resignation the following day, keeping him in charge as the club turns its attention back to the domestic campaign.

"The club has major goals to achieve in the league and in Europe," Tekke said. Those ambitions now require an immediate response.

Amed SK will not make it easy

Amed SK have already shown they can be difficult to beat on their own ground, winning their first home league match of the season.

That makes Monday's game a potential test for a Trabzonspor side trying to quickly put its European disappointment behind it. Amed SK have the opportunity to take advantage of any lingering uncertainty and make another statement in front of their home supporters.

For Trabzonspor, meanwhile, the equation is straightforward: win in Diyarbakir and they will move alongside Galatasaray at the top of the standings.
