Fenerbahce 1-1 Galatasaray: Dramatic Duran equaliser denies Turkish Super Lig leaders
Galatasaray looked set to take the spoils in the Intercontinental Derby, but Jhon Duran came to Fenerbahce's rescue in dramatic fashion.
Jhon Duran's last-gasp header rescued a point for Fenerbahce, who snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw with Galatasaray in the Intercontinental Derby.
The former Aston Villa forward struck in the fifth minute of stoppage time, cancelling out Leroy Sane's first-half strike in Istanbul.
Leaders Galatasaray were aiming to go four points clear at the Turkish Super Lig summit, and looked the more dangerous of the two sides during the first half.
Victor Osimhen and Gabriel Sara were narrowly off target, before Sane broke the deadlock with a deflected strike from the edge of the area in the 27th minute.
Fenerbahce thought they had equalised through Edson Alvarez just before half-time, but the West Ham loanee was denied following a VAR review after a handball was spotted in the build-up.
However, the hosts did grab a share of the spoils when two of their substitutes combined in the 95th minute, with Duran nodding in Levent Mercan's cross to secure a vital point.
Data Debrief: Duran extends hosts' unbeaten run
Duran's late heroics ensured Fenerbahce extended their unbeaten streak in the Turkish Super Lig to 15 matches, while they remain a point behind their opponents.
Domenico Tedesco's side carried the greater attacking threat for large periods of the contest, registering 17 shots on goal at an expected goals (xG) value of exactly 1 to Galatasaray's six at an xG of just 0.23.
The visitors remain top of the table, but Okan Buruk's men have now won just one of their last four league games.
