Fenerbahçe Held to a Draw and Falls Further Behind Galatasaray
Fenerbahçe, second place in the Turkish Süper Lig, failed to beat Göztepe on Matchday 19 of the Turkish top flight.
Domenico Tedesco’s Fenerbahçe couldn’t secure a crucial win in the title race with Galatasaray, settling for a 1–1 draw against Göztepe at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Fenerbahçe Failed to Hold the Lead
The Yellow Canaries took the lead just 17 minutes in, when Dorgeles Nene used his pace to get in behind the defense and make it 1–0.
Despite falling behind and facing constant pressure from the hosts, Göztepe remained dangerous. Their persistence paid off in the 24th minute, when a quick counterattack ended with Janderson scoring the equalizer.
From that point on, the home side pushed hard for a winner, but Fenerbahçe lacked the finishing touch needed to claim all three points and keep pace in the title race.
Where Does Fenerbahçe Stand in Turkey?
With the draw, Tedesco’s side reached 43 points, remaining second in the table, three points behind leaders Galatasaray.
Meanwhile, Göztepe sit fourth with 36 points, currently occupying a UEFA Conference League spot.
