Sanctions after the Istanbul derby

The disciplinary committee of the Turkish Federation handed a three-match suspension to left-back Archie Brown of Fenerbahçe and a two-match ban to centre-back Abdülkerim Bardakci of Galatasaray on Friday for the brawl that followed last Monday's Istanbul derby.

Brawl and red cards after the final whistle

The match, one of the most high-profile in Turkish football, ended in a 2-1 victory for Galatasaray and a fight between players from both teams right after the final whistle, which even forced the police to enter the pitch to separate them.

The referee sent off Brown and Bardakci, while right-back Roland Sallai of Galatasaray and left winger Kerem Aktürkoglu of Fenerbahçe received yellow cards.

The Federation later referred the cases of the players, club officials and both teams involved in the incidents to the disciplinary committee.

Fines and league standings

In addition to the suspensions for taking part in the brawl, Brown and Bardakci were fined, as were their respective clubs.

Galatasaray, who were playing at home, must pay more than two million Turkish lira, around €38,500, and Fenerbahçe almost 1.3 million lira, around €23,000.

Galatasaray, champions of the last four editions of the Turkish Super Lig, lead the standings with 22 points after nine matchdays, while Fenerbahçe sit fifth with 16.EFE
