Uruguayan footballer Lucas Torreira, recently crowned champion with Galatasaray, went through a frightening incident in Turkey after reportedly being assaulted while walking through a shopping center in Istanbul.

What happened to Lucas Torreira?

According to Uruguayan outlet Ovación, Torreira suffered a blow to the face that caused redness near his left cheek and eye.

Fortunately, the situation did not become more serious.

The midfielder’s agency released a statement to reassure fans.

“We want to reassure everyone regarding Lucas Torreira’s situation”.

They also confirmed authorities acted quickly.

“The incident was quickly controlled by authorities and the person responsible has already been arrested”.

Who was the alleged attacker?

According to Marca and other European reports, the alleged attacker was identified as Burak Doan, who was arrested while attempting to flee in a taxi.

At the time of the incident, Torreira was with his girlfriend, actress Devrim Özkan.

Reports also claim Özkan had previously obtained a restraining order against the suspect, who allegedly has a history of intentional assault cases.

Torreira is out of danger

People close to the player confirmed that Torreira is safe and out of danger, while also thanking fans for their support following the incident.
