José Mourinho Changes his Mind and Closes the Door on Jadon Sancho’s Move to Fenerbahçe
The future of Jadon Sancho remains uncertain, but one possible destination is now off the table. Fenerbahçe, currently managed by José Mourinho, had shown serious interest in the Manchester United winger. However, the Portuguese coach pulled back after a direct conversation with Rúben Amorim, the current United boss. According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the transfer was ruled out for reasons beyond Sancho's sporting performance.
The 25-year-old winger recently returned to Old Trafford after an underwhelming loan spell at Chelsea, where he failed to impress. The London club opted not to trigger the $30 million buy clause and terminated the loan early, incurring a $6.3 million penalty paid to United. Since then, Sancho has been on the market, but his high wages have made negotiations difficult with clubs like Napoli and Juventus.
Mourinho wants commitment, not just talent
In Turkey, Fenerbahçe seemed ready to make a $19 million offer and offer Sancho a weekly wage close to $180,000. According to The People’s Person, a preliminary agreement had even been reached with the player’s camp. But after consulting with Amorim, Mourinho changed course, deciding that Sancho didn’t fit the type of dedicated player he wants for his Istanbul project.
That conversation proved pivotal. According to Fanatik, Mourinho sensed that the Englishman was more focused on securing a lucrative contract than contributing meaningfully to the team. True to his philosophy, the Portuguese manager stepped away from the deal and is now focusing on players who embody discipline and commitment—two core values in his approach.
With the Fenerbahçe option off the table, Juventus now appears to be Sancho’s most likely destination. The Turin-based club has reportedly submitted a $30 million bid, and negotiations with the player are progressing. Still under contract but not part of Amorim’s plans, Sancho continues to search for a fresh start to reignite his career in Europe.
