Belgium's Thomas Meunier Departs Borussia Dortmund for Trabzonspor Move in Turkey
The departure of the 32-year-old Belgian player from Borussia Dortmund, where he has been since 2020, was officially announced.
Meunier's arrival at Trabzonspor in Turkey was also officially confirmed this Wednesday. The team currently sits in fourth place in the Süper Lig and has offered the player an 18-month contract.
Meunier is leaving Borussia Dortmund after nearly four years, during which he couldn't establish himself in the German team, playing in just 83 matches, scoring three goals, and providing eight assists.
Meunier's departure from the German team six months before the end of his contract gives Dortmund a certain advantage as they will save around four million euros in his salary.
The team's sporting director, Sebastian Khel, stated that the team was willing to help the player leave, "Thomas had the opportunity to join a new club shortly before the end of the transfer window this week. We have complied with his request for this transfer, would like to thank Thomas for his commitment, and wish him all the best for his sporting and personal future," he commented.
Meunier's arrival at the Turkish team could provide some mobility in the defensive line, as well as experience and control. It is expected that he will integrate well and may secure several starting minutes.
