Stones trades Manchester for Milan

The next chapter in John Stones' career already has a defined stage; the English defender was officially announced as the new player of Inter Milan, the reigning Serie A champion. The news was confirmed this Thursday, following his departure from Manchester City, a club he had been with for a decade under the management of Pep Guardiola.

Stones signed a two-season contract with the Italian team, thus closing a stage marked by titles and prominence in England. Over ten years at the Etihad Stadium, he played 295 matches in all competitions since his arrival in 2016 from Everton, in a deal worth around 50 million pounds. His record is impressive, with six Premier League titles, in addition to the historic Champions League won by the Citizens three years ago, among a total of 17 trophies.

Inter bets on experience and hierarchy

The 32-year-old defender was closely followed by Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, but he ultimately chose to join Cristian Chivu's project in Italy. The decision ties him to a team that seeks to maintain its dominance in local football and strengthen its international presence. Stones becomes the fourth market reinforcement for Inter, following the signings of Ivan Provedel, Aleksandar Stankovic, and his former City teammate, Manuel Akanji.

From England to Serie A

Beyond his club career, Stones also made an impact with the English national team. He was part of the squad that achieved England's best performance in an away World Cup, winning the bronze medal. However, the last few months in Manchester were marked by injuries that limited his continuity. Now, in Milan, he will seek to regain consistency and bring his experience to defend the Serie A title.

The official debut could take place on August 22, when Inter opens the season against Monza. The expectations are high.
