Santiago Giménez Left Out of AC Milan’s Asia Tour After the 2025 Gold Cup
AC Milan has released its squad list for the Asian tour, and Santiago Giménez is not on it. The Mexican striker will remain in Europe while the team starts to prepare the next season... but he's not the only notable absentee.
Left out
AC Milan has announced its squad for the preseason tour of Asia, and Santiago Giménez is not included. The Mexican forward, who played in the 2025 Gold Cup with El Tri, will not travel with the team for the upcoming matches against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Perth Glory.
Santi’s absence raised some eyebrows, especially since this is his first summer as a Rossonero. However, head coach Massimiliano Allegri opted to leave him out of this early stage of preparation.
The reasons
The main reason for Giménez’s absence is the rest period granted after his participation in the international tournament. The striker is currently on club-authorized vacation and remains in Mexico, handling personal and commercial matters, after traveling to Argentina to celebrate his parents' 25th wedding anniversary.
Other players also left out include Emerson Royal, still recovering from injury, and several who are expected to leave the club: Pobega, Bennacer, Adli, and Devis Vásquez.
The Croatian Wizard also stays behind
Luka Modric, one of Milan’s marquee summer signings, will also miss the Asian tour. The Croatian midfielder was granted extended time off after participating in the Club World Cup with Real Madrid, where he said his final goodbye to the Spanish giants.
His absence, like Santi’s, is part of a strategic preseason plan that will allow other players to gain minutes and rhythm early in the summer.
Should fans be concerned?
There’s no need to hit the panic button. Santiago Giménez himself confirmed in an interview with El Escorpión Dorado that he is expected to report back to Milan on August 4, a date agreed upon with the club. His absence is temporary and part of a recovery schedule following an intense summer.
AC Milan will kick off its official campaign on August 17 against Bari in the Coppa Italia, with their Serie A debut set for August 23 against Cremonese. And yes, all signs point to Santi being ready by then.
