'My love for the club remains intact' – Lukaku intends to stay at Napoli
Romelu Lukaku has fixed his relationship with Napoli, and has no intention of leaving earlier than the end of his contract in June 2027.
Romelu Lukaku says his "love for Napoli remains intact" as he intends to remain at the club for the rest of his contract.
Lukaku, who joined Napoli in August 2024, has endured an injury-hit second campaign at the club, managing just five substitute appearances in Serie A.
And he has also clashed with the club in 2025-26, having ignored the call to return to Napoli training following the March international break and has not featured for them since.
In April, then Napoli head coach Antonio Conte said he was "disappointed" that Lukaku had not been to speak to him when visiting the training ground to gain permission to continue his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury in Belgium.
Conte has since left Napoli at the end of the season – being linked to the vacant Italy job in the process – but Lukaku does not intend to follow him out of the door, with his current deal running through to June 2027.
"I was a bit irritated by the way some Italian media presented the thing," Lukaku told RTBF of his decision to stay in Belgium.
"They were exaggerated. I didn't come to Belgium on holiday; I wanted to return to being the best version of myself as quickly as possible.
"It's [his relationship with the club] all good now. You understand why I acted that way. My love for the club remains intact.
"I have one year left in my contract. I'm a Napoli player; I'm not the type of player who asks to leave."
Lukaku has been selected in Belgium's squad for the upcoming World Cup despite his ongoing injury issues. He has not featured for his national team since a World Cup qualifier against Wales in June last year.
