Juventus Define Their Priority to Close Out the Transfer Window

Juventus continue to rebuild their squad and, after completing several important moves this summer, Luciano Spalletti now has a clear idea of where the next reinforcement is needed.

The priority is at full-back.

The Italian coach wants genuine competition in virtually every position and believes the defensive flanks still need more depth. The idea is to sign a natural full-back, preferably on the left, although the ability to play on both sides would be particularly valuable.

The arrivals of Randal Kolo Muani, Kerim Alajbegovic, Jhon Lucumí and Guglielmo Vicario have helped address several of the team’s needs. Attention has now shifted to a position that still does not offer the alternatives Spalletti is looking for.

Spalletti Wants Competition in Every Position

The coach’s intention is to build a squad in which no player is guaranteed a place simply because there are no alternatives.

“We need to improve this area of the squad. We need more players who can compete for a place,” Luciano Spalletti explained after the internal friendly against Juventus Next Gen.

One of the key names in this situation is Andrea Cambiaso. The Italian can operate in several positions and provides plenty of tactical flexibility, but his last season was marked by some inconsistency.

For that reason, Juve want to bring in a player capable of competing directly for the position while also allowing Spalletti to manage minutes more effectively over the course of a long season.

Zeki Çelik’s versatility also plays a role in the search. Depending on where the coach decides to use him, the club could ultimately prioritize a left-back or a player capable of covering both flanks.

Emerson Royal Emerges as an Option

Among the alternatives being considered by Juventus is Emerson Royal.

The situation at Olympique de Marseille could make a potential deal easier. The French club needs to keep a close eye on its finances due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, meaning the departure of some players on significant salaries could become a possibility during the final days of the transfer window.

Emerson has one important advantage: he already knows Italian soccer from his experience in Serie A and could provide an immediate solution without requiring much time to adapt to the competition.

One possible formula being considered would involve a loan arrangement. Michele Di Gregorio has also been linked with Marseille, potentially opening up different possibilities in negotiations between the two clubs.

More Moves Could Still Come

Juventus’ rebuild may not necessarily end with the arrival of a full-back.

The futures of players such as Jonathan David, Arthur Melo and Teun Koopmeiners could still lead to additional moves before the transfer window closes. If some departures are completed, the club would have greater flexibility to explore opportunities in midfield or even strengthen the attack again.

Those moves, however, will first depend on creating space within the squad.

The immediate priority is elsewhere.

After strengthening the goalkeeper position, central defense and attack, Luciano Spalletti believes Juventus need to complete their options on the flanks in order to build a more balanced squad.

Juve remain in the middle of a major restructuring process.

And to finish building the team Spalletti wants, the next move points directly toward the full-back positions.
