Inter 1-1 Hellas Verona: Bowie stuns Serie A champions with last-gasp equaliser
Inter's party atmosphere at San Siro was stunned into silence by a last-minute strike that denied them victory over relegated Hellas Verona.
Inter were denied in their final home game of the Serie A season, as Kieron Bowie's last-gasp equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw for relegated Hellas Verona at San Siro.
Andrias Edmundsson's early second-half own-goal put the domestic double winners on course for victory, but Bowie snatched a share of the spoils in stoppage time.
The visitors went close to breaking the deadlock midway through the first half, with Yann Sommer forced into a smart reflex save to keep out Bowie's header.
However, the hosts struck first two minutes into the second half. Petar Susic's corner was met by Ange-Yoan Bonny, whose header was diverted past his own goalkeeper by Edmundsson.
Inter went close to doubling their advantage just before the hour mark with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez denied in quick succession, while Sommer thwarted substitute Amin Sarr at the other end.
Mattia Mosconi and Susic missed chances to put the contest to bed, before Verona struck in the first minute of stoppage time, as Bowie latched onto a long ball and slotted home to snatch a late point.
Data Debrief: Verona's starman
A shining light during a dark period for Verona, Bowie has scored each of their last four goals in Serie A.
The Scotsman is the first Verona player to achieve the feat since Giovanni Simeone in 2021, and only the second Gialloblu player to score four successive away goals in the Italian top flight after Antonin Barak in 2022.
Though they could not hold on, Inter now unbeaten in 30 Serie A meetings with Verona (W24), equalling their longest streak against a single opponent (also 30 against Sampdoria between 1961 and 1977).
The Nerazzurri have also gone 35 Serie A home matches against Verona without defeat, matching the record streak by a side against a single opponent in the competition's history (Juventus against Verona).
