‘I see the glass as half full’ – Tudor praises Juventus showing after Atalanta draw
Igor Tudor believes Juventus' 1-1 draw with Atalanta featured one of the best Bianconeri performances he has overseen.
Igor Tudor believes “the glass is half full” following Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Atalanta at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
Despite playing out the final 10 minutes of the match with a man advantage after Marten de Roon was sent off for picking up a second yellow card, Tudor’s Bianconeri side failed to capitalise and take all three points.
Juve dominated the early proceedings and saw the better chances fall their way as Pierre Kalulu struck the post and Teun Koopmeiners sent a shot into the side netting inside the opening three minutes.
Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi was forced into action on a number of occasions to shut out efforts from Vasilije Adziv and Kenan Yildiz, before Kamaldeen Sulemana put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half-time.
Juan Cabal got Juve level with a close-range finish in the second half, but the Bianconeri failed to capitalise on de Roon’s sending off as Weston McKennie sent a tame volley straight at Carnesecchi in the dying minutes.
Tudor, however, felt the draw was a fair outcome, telling DAZN Italia: “I see the glass half full, because we put in a great performance, one of the best since I’ve been here.
“It was a tough match between two teams who play in the Champions League, so a draw is fair.”
Draws have indeed long been a feature of this fixture.
Across the last 10 Serie A seasons (since 2016-17), matches between Juventus and Atalanta have produced the most draws in the league, with 12 out of 19 matches ending in a stalemate (four victories for Juve, three for Atalanta during this run).
Tudor also addressed his substitutions, with the withdrawals of Bremer and Khephren Thuram down to fitness concerns.
“Bremer was playing against a very strong striker today and used up a lot of energy, so we’ll see,” Tudor explained.
“I don’t think it’s serious, but the timing was a problem, as I couldn’t introduce Jonathan David in the final minutes.
“Khephren Thuram felt a twinge in his calf, but that’s nothing to worry about either.”
When asked about his constant reshuffling of the midfield and forward line, Tudor added: “There are three centre-forwards and a group of players who can support the striker.
“I just have to choose them from game to game, making them all play in the system that we set up. There’s also Francisco Conceicao, who will be fit and ready for the Champions League next week.”
