Gian Piero Gasperini vented his frustration at Roma's lack of activity in the transfer market this summer.

Roma have made three signings so far, though only one of them is a new face; Santiago Castro joined from Bologna for €35m.

Donyell Malen and Daniele Ghilardi both made their loan spells permanent in this window, though Roma still have plenty of work to do.

Roma qualified for the Champions League for the first time since the 2017–18 season, with Eusebio Di Francesco at the helm, and for the first time since then (77), the Giallorossi also surpassed 70 total points in a Serie A season (73).

Gasperini highlighted the need for at least four more additions this summer, which he does not see as "insurmountable".

"The transfer market just really got going now due to the World Cup, but clearly I expect something from here on in," Gasperini told Tuttomercatoweb.

"We lost a lot of players and anyone can see this squad needs to be completed. We will certainly need to bring in some players to make it a competitive team.

"At this moment, we’ve got three midfielders out, some players just arrived, others aren’t ready yet.

"Compared to last term, I asked for a defender, a winger, and two strikers. Of course, if a player leaves, then he has to be replaced too.

"This was my objective, it doesn’t seem so difficult or insurmountable to me."

Gasperini made the comments after Roma were thrashed 4-1 by Championship side Cardiff City in pre-season.

Roma have friendlies lined up against Newport County, Brighton and Borussia Dortmund before the start of their Serie A campaign on August 24 against Fiorentina.
