Luka Modrić Targeted by European Giant After Turning Down Real Madrid Stay
Now a free agent, Luka Modrić has become a top priority for AC Milan, who dream of bringing the Croatian legend into their new project.
Milan Sets Its Sights on the Croatian Maestro
At 39 years old, Luka Modrić is not ready to walk away from football. Although he once hoped to retire at Real Madrid, the club decided to end his tenure, honoring him at the Santiago Bernabéu but ultimately opting not to renew his contract. Now free to choose his next destination, the veteran midfielder is drawing interest from major European clubs.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, one of the most serious contenders is AC Milan. The Italian publication reported that new head coach Massimiliano Allegri has identified Modrić as a key figure to add experience and quality to his squad. The article even featured a photo of the Croatian wearing a Milan tracksuit as a child, fueling excitement among fans.
No Rush, but Big Options on the Table
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Milan's new sporting director, Igli Tare, has already mentioned Modrić as part of the club’s early transfer discussions. The former Real Madrid star has received several offers from around the world, but is reportedly in no rush to make a decision.
One of Milan’s advantages is that the Croatian playmaker is not looking for a massive contract. “Luka isn’t chasing a huge deal—he brings class, leadership, and character,” La Gazzetta noted. Still, there’s one major consideration: he’ll turn 40 in September and started fewer than half of Real Madrid’s matches last season.
Even so, his leadership and technical ability remain undeniable. For a squad that’s looking to blend youth with experience, Modrić could be a pivotal addition both on and off the pitch. Italian football has a long history of embracing veteran stars, and Serie A may just be the ideal stage for one final challenge.
With preseason preparations on the horizon, the summer transfer window is heating up—and Luka Modrić may soon find himself wearing red and black in San Siro. What’s certain is that even after leaving Madrid, the Croatian legend still has more football to give.
