Darwin Núñez Chooses Napoli Over Milan: A Fresh Start in Italy?
The Uruguayan striker will not have a place at Liverpool next season and it seems that his new destination is in Partenopean lands with the Italian champion.
Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez didn’t have the best of seasons with Liverpool, despite the team’s title win. The forward managed just 7 goals and 7 assists across all competitions and seems clear that his future lies away from Anfield and English football.

Why is Darwin leaving?
Competition up front at Liverpool is intense. Last season, Núñez had to fight for his place against Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, depending on Arne Slot’s tactics.
And if that wasn’t enough, now Florian Wirtz has joined from Bayer Leverkusen. While he’s not an out-and-out striker, his arrival will further reduce Núñez’s playing time — something the Reds’ management knows well.
From Milan to Napoli: the new destination
For weeks, a move to AC Milan was rumored, with Massimiliano Allegri reportedly interested. But the fierce competition for places — with names like Santiago Giménez, Luka Jovic, Tammy Abraham and Rafael Leão — made things complicated.
Now the spotlight has shifted to the south of Italy: Napoli, the current Serie A champions, have turned their full attention to the Uruguayan.
Napoli’s offer
According to Fabrizio Romano, Núñez himself would welcome a move to Napoli — a team set to play in the Champions League and one that aims to defend its Serie A crown.
The club is ready to open its wallet and negotiate with Liverpool for a fee close to €45 million, though they hope to agree on a slightly lower figure. One thing’s clear: while Darwin is a priority for Napoli, they don’t intend to overpay for a player coming off a fairly modest season.
