Mourinho Decides: Wants To Stay at Benfica
José Mourinho signals his intention to remain at Benfica.
José Mourinho has made his position clear regarding his future: he wants to remain as head coach of Benfica next season. Following a 2-0 win over CD Nacional, the experienced Portuguese manager confirmed he is already planning ahead, although he emphasized that the final decision rests with the club.
“It depends entirely on whether the club wants me to stay after the summer,” Mourinho stated. At 63, the coach widely known as The Special One remains highly motivated and focused on building a competitive project. He also made it clear that his willingness to stay is not tied to transfer spending, but rather to the club’s vision and stability.
Since taking charge in September, after leaving Fenerbahçe, Mourinho has brought renewed competitiveness to Benfica. Interestingly, his appointment came shortly after Benfica eliminated his previous team in the Champions League qualifiers, a twist that ultimately led him to Lisbon.
Looking ahead, Mourinho has already outlined key plans for the upcoming season. With a demanding schedule and several players expected to be involved in international competitions such as the World Cup, he intends to rely heavily on the club’s youth academy.
“I’m looking for that small elite within the elite,” he explained, highlighting his strategy to promote young talent and strengthen squad depth. While his future remains in the club’s hands, Mourinho is already acting as if he will continue leading Benfica into the next campaign.
