Académico de Viseu’s return to the Portuguese top flight after 37 years has already produced some interesting moments. Although they are still searching for their first victory of the season, the team has shown it can compete against major opponents.

In their opening match, Académico earned an impressive 2-2 draw away against Benfica at the Estádio da Luz. Rúben Pereira and André Clóvis scored for Académico, who managed to respond twice after falling behind.

A 1-0 defeat against Santa Clara followed before another 2-2 draw away to Marítimo. In that match, Académico built a two-goal advantage through André Clóvis and Soufiane Messeguem, but the Madeira side responded in the second half.

With two points from their opening three matches, the challenge now is to secure their first victory against the defending champions.

FC Porto Arrive Perfect and Yet to Concede

FC Porto have started their title defense almost as well as possible.

The Dragons defeated FC Alverca 2-0 on the opening matchday with goals from André Silva and Gabri Veiga, before recording another 2-0 victory away against Rio Ave.

Their third win also came by a 2-0 scoreline, this time against Arouca at the Estádio do Dragão, a result that left Francesco Farioli’s team alone at the top of the standings.

Three matches, three victories, six goals scored and none conceded. Defensive solidity has been one of the biggest keys to the champions’ impressive start, while players such as William Gomes, André Silva, Gabri Veiga and Pepê provide different attacking options.

A Very Different Test for the Dragons

On paper, FC Porto enter as favorites, but the match presents an interesting challenge. Académico de Viseu have already managed to take a point away against Benfica and will now have the opportunity to face the defending champions in front of their own supporters.

Expectations in Viseu are huge. The tickets allocated to Porto supporters sold out in less than six hours, setting the stage for a great atmosphere at the Fontelo.

For Académico, it will be an opportunity to claim their first major victory since returning to the top flight. For Porto, the objective is to maintain their perfect start, stay at the top of the table and extend a run in which no opponent has managed to score against them.
