His celebration also featured an interesting detail. The Colombian put his fingers to the corners of his mouth to make a smile, after Rui Borges had been asked in his pre-match press conference about the striker's lack of smiles after scoring.

The Sporting coach had publicly backed Suárez's commitment ahead of the match.

The goal against Nacional was Suárez's fourth of the Liga Portugal season, while also extending his scoring streak to three consecutive league matches.

The Colombian, who finished as the Portuguese league's top scorer last season, made another decisive contribution after halftime.

Zeno Debast played a long pass toward Suárez, who drove toward the penalty area before sending the ball to his left for Flávio Gonçalves to finish and make it 2-0.

A goal and an assist completed another influential performance from Suárez.
