Celtic Sign Swedish Forward Benjamin Nygren from Nordsjaelland
Celtic have made their first major signing of the summer by bringing in Swedish attacker Benjamin Nygren from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.
The 23-year-old joins the Scottish champions on a five-year deal for a fee reported to be in the region of £1.2 million to £1.7 million, pending international clearance.
Standout Season in Denmark
Nygren arrives at Celtic Park following a breakthrough campaign in the Danish Superliga, where he netted 16 goals and provided four assists across all competitions. His performances not only earned him a place in the league’s Team of the Year but also attracted interest from clubs in Belgium and Germany.
With his contract set to expire at the end of 2024, Celtic moved quickly to secure his signature, beating out several European rivals.
A versatile and creative forward, Nygren is comfortable playing as a number 10 but can also operate across the front line. He is known for his direct running, technical ability, and eye for goal—qualities that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers highlighted after the signing.
Rodgers described Nygren as an “exciting, quality player” who brings both creativity and a proven scoring touch, noting his experience in European competitions, including a memorable hat-trick against Fenerbahce in last season’s UEFA Conference League.
Rodgers’ Praise and Nygren’s Ambition
Brendan Rodgers was quick to praise his new signing, emphasizing Nygren’s ability to add depth and variety to Celtic’s attack. The Swedish international, who recently made his senior debut for his country, expressed his excitement about joining a club with a winning mentality and a passionate fanbase.
Nygren said he hopes to contribute both goals and assists as the Hoops look to defend their domestic titles and make an impact in the Champions League qualifiers later this summer.
The signing of Nygren is seen as a statement of intent from Celtic as they aim to strengthen their squad for another demanding campaign. With further additions expected in the coming weeks, Nygren will be expected to play a key role in Rodgers’ plans as Celtic look to maintain their dominance in Scotland and compete on the European stage.
