Celtic bolster attack with late Iheanacho deal
Celtic have found their replacement striker, announcing the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho following his departure from Sevilla.
Celtic have announced the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year deal, beating the Europa League deadline to get his signature.
Iheanacho had mutually terminated his contract with Sevilla on deadline day and has joined Brendan Rodgers' side on a free transfer.
Celtic had come under fire for a slow transfer window, with fans openly complaining about the club's failure to sign a striker after letting Adam Idah join Swansea City on Monday.
Iheanacho is now reunited with Rodgers, having played under him during his time at Leicester City, and won the FA Cup in 2021.
The Nigeria international made 232 appearances for Leicester in all competitions, with 149 of those coming during Rodgers' time in charge. He scored 61 goals for the Foxes before leaving at the end of the 2023-24 season.
He joined Sevilla, making 11 appearances for the LaLiga side, though he spent the second half of 2024-25 on loan at Middlesbrough, where he scored once and got one assist.
"I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate," Rodgers told Celtic's website of Iheanacho.
"I am sure he will love being at Celtic, and I believe our fans will love what he brings.
"He has great experience, and he is right in his peak years, so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team."
Iheanacho could make his debut for Celtic against Kilmarnock on September 14.
