Wolves stretched their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions, as the Premier League's bottom club held Newcastle United to a goalless draw at Molineux.

Eddie Howe's visitors could have climbed to fifth – and into a potential Champions League spot – with a victory, but fatigue appeared to play a part in their flat performance.

Newcastle dominated possession for long periods, but their only real chance of the first half saw Nick Woltemade miscue his header from Harvey Barnes' cross.

Wolves, meanwhile, had several bright moments on the counter-attack. Breakout star Mateus Mane saw an acrobatic attempt held by Nick Pope, while Hugo Bueno's powerful drive from the right side of the area brushed the roof of the net.

Newcastle upped the ante in the second half, but they still did not register a shot on target until the 85th minute, as Kieran Trippier's free-kick zipped wide of Jose Sa's left post.

And even when Newcastle finally hit the target, Sa was not unduly worried; he parried Bruno Guimaraes' volley then comfortably held Joelinton's headed follow-up, as the spoils were shared.

This was Newcastle's fourth goalless draw in the Premier League this season, which is four times as many as they played out across their previous two campaigns combined (one in 2024-25, none in 2023-24).

It was the 17th goalless draw of the 2025-26 Premier League season overall (in 218 matches), which is already more than there were in 2024-25 (16 in 380 matches).

Newcastle only hit the target twice from their 12 shots, which carried an expected goals (xG) value of 0.88, while Wolves did so twice from six efforts worth 0.29 xG.

Before Sunday's game, Newcastle had never failed to beat a team at the bottom of the Premier League table under Howe, winning their previous five such games by an aggregate score of 15-3.

And Wolves are the first team to go four games unbeaten in the Premier League while bottom of the table, since their arch-rivals West Brom enjoyed a five-match streak in April and May 2018. However, with 14 points separating them from 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, it remains a long way back for Rob Edwards' team.
